tumblrbot asked: WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?

Redirecting my focus to the good things, to force perspective.  Anything that takes me to a different place: cute animals, music, art, funny books or videos, going for a walk in nature, stars & astronomy, talking to a friend, hugging a sweetie, etc…

A guy I know suggested listing 5 good things that had happened that day, and that really works.  I think gratitude is the key to happiness - remembering how lucky you are heals a multitude of perceived ills.

Here’s a great story that I heard about today, for example:

The Mustard Seed shelter: 12 formerly homeless in  can now call a newly renovated apartment building home!  (Because they helped renovate it.)  http://www.globaltvcalgary.com/video/housing+first/video.html?v=2205039263&p=4&s=dd#video

And if all else fails… my philosophy is that life is like a topographical map - the low points are almost necessary to throw the high points into relief.  It wouldn’t be right to take it out on other people, but sometimes you might just have to feel bad for a little while.  Without some pain, would we know how to appreciate joy?  Even aside from any ideas about adversity building strength of character, I doubt happiness would have the same value if it were a static state of being.

"Pieces of art, for me, are windows into a parallel world of beauty, magic, abstraction and inspiration. So I often find that if I allow myself to observe a piece of art — be it in a gallery, on the street or just a natural work of beauty — a little bit of that other world will spill over and brighten up my day."
